I am partial to the ABA 20v Turbo. AEB 20v head + turbo. ABA 2.0L Block & Crank + head + lots of boost = BIG POWER. But the 16v is the best choice to go with, especially if it is your first swap. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

Imagine how I'd feel if I had bought a 2.0 PD Superb (failed oil pump) with a blocked DPF and a failed ESP unit (although the Teves Mk 60 was never actually fitted to the Superb). Add to that blocked pollen filter housing drains, a soaked interior and damage to the CCM electronics, transmission control (if auto) and the wiring and connectors.
The IE 2.5L is just as much fun to drive as my tdi was, but I upgraded everything else so my 2.5L is much nicer than my TDI was. With the buyback money from VW I was able to buy a 2012 2.5L and do the following: Replaced all fluids. GTI struts, springs, sways front and rear with TT mounts.
Shutting off the air. Turning the key to "OFF" will also close the anti shudder valve or electronic intake flap "throttle". This shuts off air to the engine which should stop the engine even if it's still getting fueling by burning its engine oil. Mk3 VW TDI did not have these valves, only mk4 and newer do.
