Product description. The Canon EF 24mm F1.4L II USM is an improved version of an earlier lens, and has undergone a complete redesign. It features 13 elements in 10 groups, including two high-precision glass-molded aspheric elements and two UD glass elements, plus a floating focus mechanism to maintain performance across the entire distance range.
The EF 24mm is wider and whilst sharper than many other lenses, the EF 35mm f/1.4L II is considered the sharpest prime lens that Canon has made for the EF mount. So you're not going to be able to beat that lens but the EF 24mm lens is indeed quite impressive and it's capable of very sharp results.
Overall lens image quality. We tested the Canon EF85mm F1.4L IS USM on the 50 MP Canon EOS 5DS R, the highest-resolution DSLR in Canon’s lineup. Together the combination achieved the highest overall optical quality we’ve seen for a Canon camera and any EF-mount lens, with a DXOMARK score of 49 points. That places it just ahead of the
The Canon is a known coma machine (it's so bad it can be seen clearly in the APS-C frame wide open). The Sigma is better but not by much (again, per Lenstip's results). At least the Sigma has less vignetting (though still a lot in absolute terms). I have used my Canon 24/1.4 II for astro, but not on full frame and with quite some reservations.
With 2 aspheric and 2 UD elements, the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM delivers high-quality images with excellent detail throughout the entire zoom range. A 9-blade circular diaphragm delivers beautiful, soft backgrounds. It offers a minimum focusing distance of 1.25 ft./0.38m across the entire zoom range and has a macro mode at the telephoto end with

The Sigma 24mm f1.4 DG HSM is the finest 24mm we’ve seen, although against the Canon 24mm f1.4L II USM, it’s a close-run thing. That model has slightly higher peak sharpness centrally at f4-5.6, but the Sigma has more uniform performance overall, including superior control of CA and distortion. It’s a worthy addition to the range and will

Out of curiousity, I looked at some of the cameras mentioned here. One new model was out of the budget at $2700. I'm just curious as how these people afford a lens that is $10K. John. Canon EOS T7; EF-S 18-55mm IS; EF 28-135mm IS; EF 75-300mm; Sigma 150-600mm DG. 0 Likes.
