I went to Mercedes and asked how much for a backup key and fob - central locking, immobiliser but no transponder or alarm (as far as I know). I was fairly stunned when I learned it would cost £120. I have since learned that, apparently, the AA and RAC can bypass these immobilisers and £16 will buy a new blade which works all locks.
8 07-03-2016, 05:10 AM. Yes but it is more likely that key antenna is defective if you have the original key and it used to work. Go to Ross-Tech wiki and study immobiliser section for your car. This should tell you which channels you must look in to see the key id in live data. Or use a scan tool if you don't have VCDS.

Re: Possible to disable immobilizer. The immob fault is probably a one off. If the starting problem is the immobiliser, the engine will start for 1 or 2 seconds and then stop. Your problem could be air in the fuel lines, coolant temp sensor, starter, battery voltage & earth, timing, temp sensor or glow plug fault.
